The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS), which includes the main statistical associations in the United States and Canada, has named Daniele Durante, of Bocconi’s Department of Decision Sciences, as one of this year’s recipient of its prestigious COPSS Emerging Leader Award. This prize is intended to “recognize early career statistical scientists who show evidence of and potential for leadership and who will help shape and strengthen the field,” and is reserved for candidates who earned their PhD’s no more than ten years before.

Daniele Durante has won the award for his “cutting-edge scientific contribution to statistical modeling of graphs and to Bayesian theory and methods for categorical data, as well as exemplary service, dedicated mentoring and creative outreach initiatives for early-career data scientists.”

Notably, Daniele Durante is the only one among this year’s winners not to be affiliated with an American university, and one of only three non-US-based academics who have received this award since its inception in 2021.
